Language: Writing: The students are finishing up their figurative language flip books on Monday. We will continue to review figurative language, learn about introductions, and begin planning our first personal narrative this week. The students will be planning a story about a time they felt happy. Please help your child by discussing things they may write about. Grammar: We are practicing locating the complete and simple subject and predicate at the beginning of the week. The students will have a quiz on subjects and predicates on Wednesday. | Reading: We are finishing Skinnybones by Barbara Park on Monday. I think I can say we have all enjoyed this book! A final test will be given on Tuesday. It will be open book. Next, we will begin a story in our Journey's text book called Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude. This story shows two different perspectives, so we will be talking about different points of view and doing a lot of comparing and contrasting. I will begin meeting with guided reading groups towards the end of this week. Social Studies: Our major test over Chapter 1 will be Tuesday of this week. It will NOT be open note. As long as students study the guide in their Texas Notebook, they should do great. On Wednesday we will begin learning about people who lived in the Western Hemisphere long ago. The students will receive a study guide over this material on Thursday for a test next Tuesday, October 7th. |
